Introduction to Machine Learning with Google Colab

If you know how to fit a trend line in Excel then you know how to perform machine learning. This is actually called linear regression and is a form of statistical learning which is just another way of “predicting numbers” like predicting house prices or tomorrow’s temperature. How would you estimate the market value of a diamond ring or a house?

This month Josh Peak will explore a dataset of prices of diamonds and prices of houses, and figure out the market value using the Python package SciKit-Learn on Google Colab. So all you need is a laptop, web browser and a curious mind.Future workshops we will explore classification and clustering.

It’s a BYOC (bring your own computer) event. We will provide power, WiFi and Pizza!

Introduction to Robot Navigation

For robots, the ability to navigate in its environment is important. Avoiding dangerous situations such as collisions and unsafe conditions first, but if the robot has a purpose that relates to specific places in its environment, it must find those places.

In this month’s Blast Furnace Sahil Harriram from Elite Robotics is going to teach us how to help our own robots navigate the world using the Tetrix Robots! Once we get our robots moving, we will go head-to-head in a robot race to see who made the smartest and fastest robot!

It’s a BYOC (bring your own computer) event. We will provide power, WiFi and Pizza!

IoT Smart House: Powered by Adafruit.IO

A smart home is a residence that uses internet-connected devices to enable the remote monitoring and management of appliances and systems, such as lighting and heating.

In this months session, we’ll build a mini internet-connected house to explore how you can use modern maker hardware to automate stuff. We’ll explore Adafruit.IO (a free MQTT server with lots of built-in features) and build a dashboard to control your house from your mobile phone. You’ll need to bring your own laptop, other hardware is provided.

For those interested in the coding comps we will run some competitions and give you plenty of opportunity to accrue points for the blast furnace leader board. Make sure you have your CYFERLINX account setup to get the points!

It’s a BYOC (bring your own computer) event. We will provide power, WiFi and Pizza!
