Kyle is back with the update on Newcastle’s technology job market for March 2024. This month, we saw surprisingly low job postings, leading to record-high application numbers. Juniors and contractors were the winners in March, with much higher proportions of roles for both. For all this and more, tune into the update!
Hi there, it’s Kyle here from new tech people with Newcastle’s technology job updates video for March the job numbers are surprisingly low this month, with only 95 jobs being posted in March. This is compared to 107 in February this year and 152 in March last year. This is an 11% decrease month on month and a 37.5%
decrease year on year. The scarcity in job ads means that the jobs that are posted are receiving a high amount of applications. I’m seeing this personally as well.
Now let’s get into the data. 77% of the jobs were advertised under private advertisers, 22% were government and only 1% were not for profit. Good news for contractors.
As contractor roles made up 28% of the jobs advertised in previous months, this usually sat around 15%. What does this mean for the market? What’s your opinion on it? In my opinion, it’s probably just coming down to project work. Businesses not having the requirements of a full time person could be a number of things.
Office based roles becoming more popular in the market, with an even balance between hybrid and office based roles being at 48.5% each. Meanwhile, remote roles made up 3% of the job postings, 50% of the jobs that were advertised as mid level, 22% were senior, 19% were junior, and only 4% were management.
This is great news if you’re a junior or graduate level candidate, as junior level positions usually sit around 5% of the job postings each month. That’s it for this month. Thanks for tuning in.
