After a successful first meetup last month, we’re back for August with another NCSG meetup. This month (August), we’re at The Edwards, 148 Parry St Newcastle West. The Edwards recently finished reconstruction after their premises were burnt down.

Last month there were a lot of really excellent discussions, in particular, the many discussions on the accessibility of cybersecurity mitigations &/or cybersecurity awareness for people at different levels of technical understanding.

NCSG is focused on being an all-inclusive group. No matter what level of understanding you have or background that you come from, we want you to attend & learn from the discussions that take place.

This month I wanted us to look at risk-averse vs risk-aware. Jon Tobin, a lawyer, wrote this interesting article which looks at both https://medium.com/@jontobinla/risk-aware-does-not-mean-risk-averse-45f7e8643783

Also in the news, was the Capital One breach, which is estimated to cost anywhere from $100 million to $150 million in damages in the short term … https://www.wired.com/story/capital-one-hack-credit-card-application-data/

Questions to consider:
How we perceive or signal a risk? How we respond to becoming aware of a risk? How do we become informed so as to act properly to risk?
